Project Description

This community-based project seeks to deliver immersion program focussing on grade two students in the first year (2018 – 2019) and then to grade three in the second year (2019 – 2020). The project will also focus on curriculum development that is unique to Walpole Island/ Bkejwnaong Territory during the first year of this project; and parents will be encouraged to participate in this project.

2018-2019

  • Parent Language Engagement – Resources for Parents to learn and reinforce language in the home.
  • Language Levels: Beginner
  • Target Audience: Adults/Parents & Guardians of children in the Immersion Program

Participatory

  • Immersion Program – Hire a Grade 2 Immersion Teacher
  • Language Level: Intermediate
  • Number of Participants: approximately 10 – 15 per class.
  • Number of Hours: 300 instructional minutes a day (5 hours a day) with 171 instructional days per year. Total number of instructional hours per participant is 855 a year.
  • Target Audience: Children

2019-2020

Participatory

  • Immersion Program – Grade 2/Immersion Program – Grade 3 – Retain Immersion Teacher and hire another Immersion Teacher for next level learners
  • Language Level: Advanced
  • Number of Participants: Varies with number of enrolled students, approximately 10 – 15 per class.
  • Number of Hours: 300 instructional minutes a day (5 hours a day) with 171 instructional days per year. Total number of instructional hours per participant is 855 a year.
